New YEAH YEAH YEAHS Album

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs announced on Twitter: “DNA upgrades, spontaneous evolution and NEW YEAH YEAH YEAHS RECORD ARRIVING SPRING 2013! finally.”

Finally indeed. The record will be the follow-up to the band’s 2009 release, It’s Blitz!

Drug Cabin is a new band featuring Nathan Thelen of Pretty Girls Make Graves and Marcus Congleton of Ambulance LTD.

To call the video for Whatever Never “trippy” would be obtuse. Among it’s many quirky and odd happenings, there are toes that turn into tadpoles and swim off screen. Yes, odd indeed. So we explored the mind of the video’s director Kevin Willis who explains:

“I became distraught when I lost my cat of fifteen or so years. For weeks, my mind went whirling into strange places knowing that he was never coming back. Then one day he literally just fell back into my lap. So, I decided to document that experience as best I could with this video.”

The EP is available now on iTunes.

Mew | She Came Home for Christmas How it has taken me so long to…

Mew | She Came Home for Christmas

How it has taken me so long to share this song I haven’t a clue. I heard it the very first infamous night that I was turned on to “extreme-indie” music and it continues to provide joy through exciting invigorating jumps in it’s melody which holds a soothing peaceful overtone.

The band is a trio from Copenhagen who won both Album of the Year and Band of the Year at the 2003 Danish Music Critics Award; and though it was originally the second single from their debut album (The Triumph of a Man), She Came Home for Christmas also appears on the 2003 award-winning album, Frengers. The band toured with R.E.M. after it’s release.

In February of this year, Mew announced via Twitter (@Mewwire) that they began working on new material and played shows throughout the year.

Earlier this week, the band’s poetically profound guitarist Bo updated Facebook Fans on the process, stating:

“We now gratefully retreat to write the record of our dreams…
There are things going on at the Evil Office. Different fields of skies float above us now and its very interesting. The future is a ball, shapes are all like earth. We will need all Frengers on board. We are building the ship.”
